Five Ways to Feel Confident in Front of the Camera

Five Ways to Feel Confident in Front of the Camera

“I’m so awkward in photos” — I hear it all the time. The good news: feeling natural is a skill, and I’ll guide you through every step.

If the thought of being photographed makes you a little nervous, you are in very good company — most of my clients say the exact same thing, and they still walk away with images they love. Feeling natural in front of the camera is a skill, not a personality trait, and a big part of my job is guiding you there.

First, you'll never have to wonder what to do with your hands — I give gentle, specific prompts that lead to real moments instead of stiff poses. Second, we move. Walking, twirling, whispering something funny — motion shakes the nervousness loose. Third, we start easy and build up, so by the time we're at the 'big' shots, you've already forgotten the camera is there.

Fourth, bring your people or your props — your dog, your favorite playlist, an inside joke. And fifth, trust the process. Those candid in-between moments, the ones where you forget I'm there, are almost always the keepers.
